Mediation in family law is a structured process where an independent, neutral third party helps separating couples resolve disputes relating to parenting arrangements, property settlement, and financial matters. Mediation is primarily a voluntary process and requires the consent of both parties, however, in many parenting matters, parties are generally expected to attempt family dispute resolution before applying to the Court, unless an exception applies.
